Fun and Exciting Activities to Try When the Family Comes Over for Christmas

I thought I’d switch it up for this post with something festive! When you’re running a business, it’s easy to get drown in a long list of to-dos… but it’s always important to set time aside for some good ol’ family fun.

So is your family coming over for Christmas this year? Perhaps you’re already preparing things like Christmas cards and gifts, and maybe you’re putting together a little recipe book so you know what to cook when they arrive.

But perhaps one of the biggest things to think about is what kind of entertainment you’ll have! After all, food and celebrations are great and all, but everyone’s going to be bored if you don’t have some movies and games lined up.

So here are a couple of fun and exciting activities to try out when the family comes over for Christmas this year!

Put together a list of movies to watch together

Christmas is a fantastic season to get together and watch some movies together. Look at some of the best kids Christmas movies and include a few choices for the grown-ups too. Put together a list and make sure you go through them with family members in case they have preferences too. Next, make sure you have them on your favorite streaming services, or consider renting them on services like Amazon or YouTube. Alternatively, you could also just buy them from a retail store or online seller if you want to own a physical copy for next year as well!

Get some microphones for a karaoke night

Karaoke is one of those things that we love doing with loved ones after a drink or two. Hosting a karaoke night at home doesn't need to be some formal activity where you buy a karaoke machine or anything either. If you want to be really budget, you could get a microphone and hook it up to some speakers, then you can play the songs on YouTube (there are lots of karaoke versions!) or even just use Spotify with its built-in lyrics feature!

Fun cooking activities for everyone

Cooking is a great winter hobby to pick up and it has loads of practical uses over the holidays! There are lots of Christmas recipes that you can get the kids and loved ones involved with. It could be designing Christmas cookies, making fun puddings together, or even putting patterns on pastries. There are lots of fun ways to get everyone involved with the cooking process!

Start a scavenging hunt for the kids

Buy a few small gifts and hide them in stockings around the house, then get the kids to scavenge for them! Include a few hints and get them to work together for an unforgettable night for the children.

Play some board games together

Christmas board games are a great way to bring the family together, especially if it’s something fun, light-hearted, or even cooperative! While games like Monopoly are a staple, they’re generally quite long and boring and it’s mostly for grown-ups and teens. Try to include some games for younger kids so that they can join in as well!

Some final words

Spending time with your loved ones during a festive season like this is one of the most enjoyable things you can do. Even if you don’t consider yourself a very outgoing person that lines up entertainment for guests, even having a few ideas will be a great help as it can create some wonderful Christmas memories–especially when it comes to the kids.
